Sum\u00e9rgete en el mundo de los cenotes, que proviene de la palabra maya 'dz'onot', que significa 'cavidad llena de agua'. Esta caracter\u00edstica geogr\u00e1fica \u00fanica es prominente en la regi\u00f3n norte de la pen\u00ednsula de Yucat\u00e1n, donde la roca k\u00e1rstica altamente permeable permite que el agua de lluvia forme un acu\u00edfero de agua dulce sobre una masa de agua salada densa del mar.<\/span><\/p>

La formaci\u00f3n de estos cenotes se remonta a millones de a\u00f1os cuando la Pen\u00ednsula de Yucat\u00e1n yac\u00eda bajo el mar, formando un lecho oce\u00e1nico poco profundo.
